This Privacy Policy describes how the study guide applications published by David Lai ("we", "us") handle your information. It applies to the iOS apps we publish under this brand and to this website at studyguides.dlaisoft.com.
Information we collect
We aim to collect as little personal information as possible. We do not ask for your name, email, Apple ID, or contacts inside the app, and we do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- Anonymous device identifier. When the app first contacts our backend, AWS Cognito issues an anonymous identity ID that is cached on your device and used to enforce monthly AI-tutor usage limits. It is not linked to your Apple ID, name, email, or any advertising identifier, and we cannot use it to contact you.
- AI tutor messages. Questions you send to the in-app AI tutor, and any quiz context attached to them, are transmitted over HTTPS to our backend in AWS, which forwards them to Amazon Bedrock (Anthropic Claude) for a response. We do not persist your conversation content; only per-month token usage counts (tied to the anonymous identifier above) are stored, and those records auto-expire after roughly 13 months. Operational logs may briefly retain error messages and guardrail-flagged content for debugging.
- On-device study data. Your quiz answer history, study session times, reminder preferences, and AI-prompt counters are stored only on your device in the app's Application Support directory. This data is not transmitted to us. You can erase it at any time using "Erase All Data" in the app, or by deleting the app.
- Purchases. If you buy the premium unlock, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit. We receive only a confirmation that a valid purchase exists; we do not receive your payment details.
- Support submissions. If you use the contact form on this website, we store the email address and message you submit, along with your IP address and browser user-agent, for up to one year so we can respond and investigate issues.
How we use information
- To deliver the study-guide content and AI tutor functionality you request.
- To enforce monthly usage caps and prevent abuse of the AI tutor.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
Notifications
The app can schedule local study reminders using iOS notifications. These reminders are scheduled on your device; we do not send remote push notifications and do not collect a device token.
Third parties
The apps and this website do not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. The AI tutor is powered by Amazon Bedrock running in our AWS account; prompts and responses are processed by AWS subject to its data-handling terms. In-app purchases are processed by Apple. We do not share data with anyone else.
Children's privacy
The apps are not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
You can erase all of your data — both on-device study progress and the anonymous usage record on our backend — from inside the app under Settings → Erase All Data. You can also delete the app to stop any further data from being sent. Support submissions can be deleted on request by emailing from the same address you used to send them.
